Before You Begin
Before you start this incredibly long Runescape woodcutting grind you will want to have a few items and stats. You can also pick them up as you go if you don’t have the gold. I would pick them up first so you don’t need to run back to the exchange. The items shown are a bronze, steel, mithril, and rune axe. You may also want to level up your defense and other stats so the wizards in Draynor Village don’t kill you. They are level 7 so your combat level should be 15+ to avoid being attacked. Let’s get started with Runescape woodcutting!
Level 1 – 15 (Bronze/Iron Axe)
I recommend starting out in Lumbridge right behind the store. I choose this location because there are a lot of trees and no monsters except a few spiders every once in a while. You also have good paths to start fires in front of the store or between trees.
Your firemaking will get ahead of your woodcutting but that is fine. If you get to far ahead you can start selling or dropping the wood you collect.
Level 15 – 30 (Steel Axe)
You will want to go to the bank or the grand exchange at this point and get a steel axe to chop the oak trees with. There are a lot of oak trees around this area that you can cut. On low population servers the two trees behind the store are best because one regrows as you cut the other.
Level 30 – 60 (Mithril Axe)
Now that you have made it to level 30 your grind begins with willow trees. If you are a member your should switch on to Teak trees. Teak trees are fast and will be the fastest all the way to 99. For non-members the willow trees in Draynor Village are a popular spot with lots of company. If you didn’t level up your combat skills this spot may be problematic due to the wizards. I would recommend reaching level 15 to avoid being attacked.
Level 60+ (Rune Axe)
There are a lot of places to go and chop yew trees but this spot normally has the fewest bots and players around. The problem with this spot is its distance away from any bank. The best spots to farm yew trees are outside the Varrock church, behind Varrock castle, or in front of Falador.
Runescape Woodcutting isn’t very useful to level as a non-member but can be very useful if you activate a membership. I would recommend leveling them both to 15 if at all and not bothering with them after that. I also recommend checking out this guide on the Scams To Avoid in Old School Runescape which might save you a lot of gold.
